(Note: the position of the Supreme Chancellor is still available. This is simply an NPC that will run until the next election cycle at which point any player interested in the position may take over at any time. )
The ringer on the holocom unit was practically beeping non-stop as the calls came in from all over the fleet. Something had gone horribly awry with the War Games this time and there was growing evidence that all it took was a virus to bring the whole fleet operation to a crashing halt.
Chancellor Phaar K'in was astonished at the brutal efficiency of the attack and the massive effects that it had. It was enough to stup the Muun man where he stood. All his political career he had never, never seen anything like it and the logic, he sheer logic of the attack with its precision was enough to actually scare him.
That fear came out as a sigh and that sigh echoed softly in his dimly lit office. Night had fallen on the Senate Rotund and it was sure to get worse as the night progressed. Looking up from the digital readouts on datapads and focusing on the holgraphic data streaming from a projector on his desk, the fleet looked to have sustained only minimal dmage caused by the initial panic in the crew. There was another sigh as he wondered what a human like the man who had preceded him would have felt at a time like this.
His logical mind was already at work weighing in the evidence that came in as it came in. A picture was brewing and it was one that he knew the fleet command didn't like. His eyes darted over to the podium set recessed into the center of the floor. He knew that come morning, he'd have to be standing in it, presiding over a special Senate hearing into the matter. As the detials filtered in, he was still confronted with the same horror. There was a nameless, faceless enemy that was out there preying upon the military. Intil that enemy emerged, they had no means of defense except to merely bolster thier computer systems' defenses and attempt to track down the hacker or hackers responsible.
Sitting back in his chair he could only guess what a human would feel at a time like this...He guessed his predecessor would have felt fear initially, perhaps followed by anger, even a hidden rage. Perhaps that's what the galaxy would have expected at a time like this in him or any leader in his place. He sighed, logic and reason were what led his campaign successfully to this chair and it would hopefully see the day through this crisis.
The figure of a Twillek woman drifted in clad in flowing white robes. Her powerful black eyes glittered with intelligence as she softly whispered in Basic, "Chancellor sir, there is another message coming in for you from the Fleet Command."
Nodding he answered in a calm voice, "Very well, patch it through."
Within seconds, she had dissappeared and instead the bluish figure of a human man in a naval uniform appeared. "Chanclelor Sir." The life-sized figure saluted.
"Admiral, what's the news coming from the fleet and why are there so many calls coming in about a cyber attack?"
"Chancellor sir, that's precicely it. The fleet's com systems were offline due to a virus and the attack lasted for only five minutes. However, if that had been during a military engagement, it could have been disastrous."
"Yes, I'm very aware of that. Do you have any idea what caused it?"
"No sir, but we are still going over keystroke logs and we're going over the systems' main servers. So far it looks like we had intercepted a pirate signal and that's what started the whole thing."
There was a sigh as the Chancellor nodded. Yes, he decided, at a time like this a human would have been far more upset. "Thank you for letting me know Admiral, please keep me informed of any new developments."
"Aye sir, I will."
He sat in his chair and took a deep cleansing breath. To a degree, even he was geting frustrated. His thin and tall frame barely filled the chair he sat in and he let a few minutes pass. His eyes closed and there was a moment when all trains of logic stopped. For a brief moment there was only the calm void that one would have found in a cave or in the reflection of a black mirror. A long bony finger reached out and pressed a button on his desk. "Taa'la, when you get the chance, please page the Jedi. I have a feeling we'll need to pool investagative resources. Send the message through the properly secured channels."
The voice of his secretary answered, "Yes Chancellor, I'm already on it."
He leaned back and hoped silently that they could perhaps help shed some light on who or what had done it. They had been there to stand in defense of the Republic and were always happy to do so when they were needed. Perhaps it was too soon, perhaps he was begining to think and act more like a human for working with so many. The logical part of him said it was better to be safe than sorry.
