It was an image that had appeared all over the galaxy by now, a mysterious figure in a flowing burgundy robe stood tall in spite the short human stature. There was that soft voice that was strangely powerful. This was an image seen on Alderaan in the early evening hours.
Instead of a president, it was a prime minister.
"Yes, may I ask who's calling?"
"Good evening mister Prime Minister," answered that lilting whisper, "I am Chief Diplomat Anakh Al-Shabba and I have called concerning the Republic and some concerns that perhaps it is breeding some political instability in the galaxy."
"We've heard no such things, how long has this discussion been going on. Whose planet do you represent?"
There was a soft, reassuring smile as her black eyes locked onto the Prime Minister's and that velvet whisper lilted, "I am the chief diplomat for Korriban. We are an independent kingom and we have some concerns about the lack of an effective counterbalance to the Republic. Our Queen fears that without one, the Galactic Republic may effectively consume the galaxy in expansionalry political and possible military tactics. We have been watching thier maneuvers with Corellia and other planets and we are frankly, quite concerned."
"We've been keeping our eye on that as well, we share a similar concern, but we don't think it's as severe as you say. Corellia has the ability to discontinue political relations at any time. There are peaceful solutions to thier problems."
"Yes, but if you analyse the situation a little more carefully, Corellia has a very big problem. The perponderance of thier trade is with the Republic. One boycott is all it takes and the Corellian economy is completly devastated. We are concerned for other planets in a similar situation and it is our fear that the expansionary politics of the Repulic are going to cause increasing instability, instability that could end in the outbreak of war."
"That is a good point. We have analyzed the situation, but not that thoroughly as of late. We've done our pest to maintain peace by being politically neutral, no matter what. It's a policy we have for the sake of our people. It ensures peace and the lack of spending on defense also allows us to avoid the horribly polluted fate of Coruscant. Why would you contact us with this matter miss Al-Shabba?"
There was a nod of the head as that ghastly transparent figure, a vision in burgundy, smiled and answered, "We know your world has a far greater political voice. Like you, we too strive for peace. However, because we have been silent so long, we have a very weak political voice...alone. It is our aim to form a political coalition to make some kind of counterbalance. It is for the sake of peace that we let the Galctic Republic know that there is a counterbalance. We are concerned that the expansion of the Republic will threaten the traditions and cultures native to the planets that they annex. Just imagine if you were in the same position as Corellia. If you were to join, there would be clauses of military obligation in the treaty as sure as I'm a woman. That goes against your political ethos of peace."
"You're right that it does, and I'm sure that you aren't hearing this question for the first time, but you are so far out in the Outter Rim, you are far from the Republic border. Why the sudden concern?"
"Sometimes, it is best to be the outsider looking in. You do not have the biases as you would as an insider. In our ages-old silence, we have watched the galactic maps change four times. Each time, the Galactic Republic growing, spreading outward from the center of the Deep Core. We have seen efforts of resistance met with stronger political pressures and we have repeatedly seen planets forced at the point of the metaphorical sword to sign unequal treaties. we may have been silent, but we have been watching. We feel it is time for planets concerned over this pattern of behavior to stand up as a unified voice and tell the Republic that enough is enough."
"That is a pattern we've seen as well, and you're right, thier expansion has been at the expense of many worlds that have resisted."
"Word will spread soon that we have become politically active. Our queen fears that the Republic will send thier beloved Jedi to start policing the wolds they intend to take next. Given some of the rumors that have plagued our planet, there is more than a chance the Jedi will be dispatched to begin to see if there is the remnants of a dead order here. That means that the Republic might take a vested interest in us in ways we do not want. We want peace and we pant privacy. We feel this can be achieved through political cooperation. Surely, your planet does not have a moratorium on a simple political front."
"You're quite right, we don't have a moratorium on that. Give us some time to think it over. Is there a way we can contact you?"
"Actually we will contact you again, will a standard galalctic week be enough time to consider, or will you need more time?"
"Miss Al-Shabba, that will work splendidly. We'll be looking forward to talking with you again."
The figure smiled, and there was almost the audible, "Thank you," as she bowed and vanished in a haze of bluish snow. With that there was silence on the holocom channel.
