She wasn't alone in her office. Her repeated message, though tailored to suit the particular planet at the time, had gone out to several separatist planets. All of them were likely to come around, especially with the promise of money in lieu of the Republic's meddling. In cases like Corellia, there was the likelyhood that armed conflict could break out.
She sat at her desk, her moon-white face the only thing contrasting with the otherwise perfect darkness in the glare of the holographic projections. Her yellowed eyes stared deeply into the holograms as she watched the Holonet news feeds. There was some cause for concern as there were reports of Korriban in the news. There seemed to be surprise that there was a politically active government on a planet otherwise thought to be abandoned. Sitting silently at her hesk, her consuming glare shifted from the hologram to the sleeping hulk of a second dog.
Like Nas'ra, this beast was alchemically altered from a Dark Wolf to be a truly Force-sensitive man-killer. She had both of them in the room with her and she smiled darkly at the thought that she'd be responsible for the start of a new breed. This second hulk of a dog was even larger and morepowerfully built. He lay there blissfully chasing something in his sleep. She smiled darkly again as she liked to imagine he was chasing a Jedi in his sleep.
Sleep...
That was something she hadn't had in the several months she had been the Dark Lord. Now she knew why so many Dark Lords past had been so apparently cranky. They weren't necessarily evil...they were exhausted! Shaking her head away from the thought, she pressed on, researching planets actively fighting Republic expansion. She had to think of more contacts to make and while still wearing that one layer of burgundy over the tale-tale black garb, she was seeking to get as much done as possible...Her mind drifted off somewhere else...She fought it valliantly and failed.
Somewhere, her mind was being invaded with the image of sneaking off, away from the jealous and prying eyes of the other lords and out into the desert. Somewhere, there was an oasis on Korriban that had the perfect pair of trees suited for a hammock...
She forcefully slapped herself to get back to the task on hand. The sound was enough to grab the attention of the two creatures in the office. With a wagging tail, Nas'ra sniffed at the red mark growing under the painted on whiteness of her face. Smiling again, weakly this time, she whispered in Archaic Sith, "Yes, maybe a distraction is a good idea." The second beast, Al-Hattal got up and did the same, licking away a bit of the powdery whiteness at her cheek. She whispered with pahntom-like softness, "I'm alright."
Sweet ghosts of Korriban, I'm running on empty and one wink, one nod, and there's some soul just waiting for a crack at taking my head. No matter what she did, there was still that nagging and crushing exhaustion setting in. Shaking her head, she muttered under her breath in the same ancient language, "I'm supposed to unlock the secrets of immortality, take over the galaxy, and preserve tradition and yet I can't even blink...Wait, says who?! I'm the bloody Dark Lord!"
A flick of the hand, and the room was locked from the inside, barring all but perhaps the most intent from entering. All she needed was five minutes. Yes, it was unlikely that the Jedi would figure it all out in five minutes and come knocking. It was unlikely with the other lords that they'd suddenly trust one another enough to form a coalition against her in five minutes either. There was no threat at the moment.
Sleep...
One of the resons why the breed was being started in the first place. She would trust these creatures before she'd trust any of her own kind. They were menat to be her real guards and with a taste for anything with a pulse, they would surely be effective bodyguards.
With a heavy sigh, she did finally give in as Nas'ra settled in a tight curl around the chair. Now that Al-Hattal was stirring, and awake, she was able to finally able to lett the massively heavy lids close over her eyes in the computer-lit gloom.
Sleep...
It was a welcome break from the months of sleeplessness. It wasn't a hammock, but it was definately a moment to simply close her eyes and...She was out cold before she knew it.
Minutes later, sleep was shattered along with the silence of the office. A shriek was cause for the two massive creatures to bark and growl low. The power of her voice was enough to be heard down the corridors. Sleep had been interrupted by the dead. The skin under that painted white matched. Fear surged through her with every thundering pulse. Frustrated, angry, and still ehxausted, she growled, "Whalla nas Jedi!"
